A recent study done in the USA showed that middle-income earners main health concern is non-communicable diseases.(NCD”s). NCD’s are cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes and respiratory diseases.
Partcipants of the survey were 1001 Americans age 30-66 with an annual income of $35,000-$99,999. Both men and women paritcipated.
Cancer was at the top of the list of health concerns at 79%, heart disease at 74% and strokes 70%. Next came alzheimer’s at 60%, alzheimer’s disease is not an NCD.
For men the specific cancer was prostate colon and lung cancer; for women it was breast cancer.
I am not surprised at the results because NCD”s are a global health concern of major health agencies, World Health Organization(WHO) and the Center for Disease Control(CDC).
The major risk factors for cancer, strokes and heart disease are as a result of lifestyle choice, they are:
- Unhealthy eating,
- Physical inactivity,
- Harmful use of alcohol.
What; then, are people doing about their health concerns, are thy pursuing a healthy lifestyle? Are they looking for ways to ease their concerns?
Our health program teaches people to promote their health by eliminating these risk factors. It is the main objective pf the program.
