Unhealthy Eating Linked to Prostate Cancer

Posted on February 8, 2013

Unhealthy  eating is  known to be a major risk factor for n0n-communicable diseases such as cancer.  A recent study supports this fact when it linked fried foods to increased risk for prostate cancer.

The participants of the study were:

  1. 1500 men diagnosed with prostate cancer
  2. 1500 without prostate cancer

There ages were 35-74 years.

For the study, the  men provided details of their eating habits

Researchers found that the men who reported eating fried foods at least once per week were 30-37% more likely to develop the disease than men who ate them less than once per month.

The fried foods in the study were:

  • French fries
  • Fried chicken
  • Fried fish
  • Doughnuts

For a healthy eating pattern, it is advised that fried foods be limited or not eaten at all, the fat content is  too high. When it becomes part of a regular eating habit there is a risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Experts of the study believe that it may be due to the high temperature used to heat the oil.
