Fruits and Vegetables Good for Long-Term Weight Loss

Successful weight loss is a long-term commitment; the health benefits are many.

Quick fixes on the other hand are not usually successful. Due to the short-term goals involved, keeping weight off is difficult.

Vegetables & fruits are important food products for good health, they are the best foods for anyone serious about losing weight and keeping it off.

Most people are aware of their importance, but many do not eat enough of them

In a recent study, researchers wanted to know what might help post-menopausal women lose weight and keep it off long-term.

In the study which was conducted in Pittsburg, USA ,they found that some eating habits were difficult to get rid of over a long period of time, but that adding fruits and vegetable over a long period helped.

The participants were 508 post-menopausal women from the Pittsburg area. They were placed in one of two groups.

Group one, the intervention group met with health experts regularly for healthy eating and regular exercise.

Group two, the control group was offered general seminars.

They were assessed after six months and again after four years.

What the researchers found was that at six months weight loss was associated with giving up difficult to break eating habits such as giving up desserts,fried foods and sugar. At 4 years weight loss was associated with eating more fruits and vegetables, giving up the bad eating habits didn’t matter as much.

Healthy eating and physical activity must be combined for healthy weight loss, long-term.

If giving up the sugar and fat is difficult to maintain, add the vegetables and fruit for long-term weight loss.

After all everyone wants to keep the weight lost, off permanently.
