According to a recent study 1:3 people can expect to develop asthma at some point in their lives.
Researchers examined the medical histories of 9, 041, 085 patients over a 16 year period. Data was collected between 1991 and 2007.
They found that the lifetime risk of being diagnosed with asthma is 33.9%. It is comparable with the chances of being diagnosed with diabetes or cancer.
The study also found that:
- Asthma is more likely to develop during childhood.
- The risk persists into adulthood
- Those who haven’t been diagnosed by age 30 still have a 13% chance
