Dietary Supplements Don’t Prevent Prostate Cancer

In Cancer, Health, Medicine, Men's Health, Research, Study on May 1, 2009 at 10:25 am

Soy protein, vitamin-E and selenium as dietary supplements may not prevent prostate cancer. This is according to a recent study.

303 men from 12 Canadian medical centers were enrolled in a double blind placebo controlled study.  Their median age 62.8.

For 3 years they were given a daily treatment of:

  1. Soy 40 grams daily
  2. Vitamin E 800 iu daily
  3. Selenium 200 mcg daily

Another group was given a placebo.

Prostate  biopsies were  performed at 12, 24 and 36 months. The study failed to prove that a combination of soy, selenium and vitamin-E can prevent the development of prostate cancer

  1. Soy may prevent cancers such as prostrate and breast cancer that may not be prevented by vitamin supplements. Protein

  2. Soy may therefore prevent cancer when use on its own as a supplement.

I know it can be an excellent substitute for certain food products.

Any way I viewed your blog, Protein and its great I like it.

  3. thanks for the good info..
