December 01, 2008: Is World AIDS Day
To raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in countries where there is a high prevalence of the disease.
- 33.2 million people are living with aids
- 2.5 milion were infected in 2007
- 2.1 million died in 2007
- Almost 1/3 of all new infections and deaths worldwide are in Africa.
World Health Organization has produced a document ‘Priority Interventions: HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in the health sector.
You can download the complete document here. It includes the latest treatment, guidelines and standard. It is designed to assist countries and stakeholders in responding to this major health care challenge.
Get Involved For teachers and students- A 1 hour educational activity is planned. Teachers and students are encouraged to spend one hour talking about AIDS on December 01
